Do you know a traffic police constable who is bracing the heat, the peak-hour traffic and the rain, providing his unwavering service to citizens of Bangalore?

Then, you can nominate him for the “Unsung Heroes at the Traffic Signals” contest which aims at honouring 25 traffic police constables in the city.

The event will be jointly conducted by the World Peacekeepers Movement, the Political Action Committee (B-PAC) and the Bangalore Traffic Police Department.

M.N.B.R. Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said that the purpose of honouring constables and head constables was to ensure that people in the lower ranks who man traffic at junctions braving the elements are motivated. “The purpose of these awards is to boost their morale,” he said.

Anil Shetty, CEO of the World Peacekeepers Movement, said that the contest is aimed at recognising and saluting those who go beyond the call of their duty.

“We had started the peace auto initiative to encourage good autorickshaw drivers who do not refuse passengers. We now want to reward good traffic policemen. Next, we want to motivate the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) employees who help in disposing of our waste everyday,” he said.

Mr. Shetty said that traffic police personnel would be shortlisted after they were nominated by the public and their track records scrutinised. The awards would be presented in July.
