One is a former employee of the jewellery shop on Dickenson Road

Two more persons, including a former employee of a city-based jewellery shop, were arrested here on Wednesday in connection with the robbery bid on Monday afternoon.

The Commercial street police identified the arrested persons as Prem Kumar (24) and Ramachandra (32).

One person identified as Naresh (24), resident of Ulsoor, was arrested on the day of the crime.

According to the police, Prem Kumar worked at the city-based jewellery shop for an year and he quit a month ago. “He knew the routine involved in money transactions,” officials said, adding that he was the brain behind the robbery attempt.

C. Krishnamurthy and Rakesh, the employees of the jewellery shop on Dickenson Road, were entrusted with Rs. 50.3 lakh in cash to be remitted to the company’s account in a commercial bank on Kasturba Road.

Ramachandra and Naresh followed the Krishnamurthy and Rakesh on a vehicle, and obstructed their path at the junction of Main Guard Cross Road on Cubbon Road. While Naresh, who was riding pillion, threw chilli powder into Rakesh’s eye and snatched the bag in which money was kept.

But passersby and traffic police came to the rescue of Krishnamurthy and Rakesh. They caught Naresh and recovered the bag, but Ramachandra escaped.
