Infosys co-founder and Unique Identification Authority of India chairman Nandan Nilekani, who is likely to contest the Lok Sabha elections from the Bangalore South constituency, will join the Congress here on Sunday.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) sources told The Hindu on Friday that Mr. Nilekani would join the Congress at the party office here in the presence of KPCC president G. Parameshwara, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Bangalore City Congress MLAs and other prominent leaders.

The constituency, which has a large number of IT firms, has attracted attention due to the political turn taken by Mr. Nilekani. It is believed that a majority of IT professionals can connect easily with someone like Mr. Nilekani more than any other politician.

Of the eight Assembly segments under the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency, Congress and BJP won four seats each in the 2013 Assembly elections.

Ananth Kumar, BJP MP, is representing the constituency since 1996.
