Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Anil Kumar justified the hike in parking fee at the city railway station, in a release issued here today.
Parking fee at the city railway station were hiked with effect from February 23. The revised slabs for bicycles, scooters/motorcycles and cars respectively are as follows:
Up to 4 hours: Rs. 2 (bicycles), Rs. 6 (scooters/motorcycles), Rs. 10 (cars); 4 – 8 hours: Rs. 4, Rs. 10 and Rs. 15; 8 – 16 hours: Rs. 6, Rs. 12 and Rs. 20; 16 – 24 hours: Rs. 8, Rs. 15 and Rs. 25
Prior to the revision, parking fee for scooters was Rs. 3 up to four hours, while four wheelers were charged Rs.5 for the same duration; between 4 hours and 8 hours two wheelers were charged Rs. 10 and four wheelers Rs.15, parking fee for 8 to 24 hours for two wheelers was Rs. 12 and Rs. 20 for four wheelers.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. Anil Kumar said that while providing parking facilities to passengers was important, they wanted to ensure that available land was put to optimum use. Mr. Anil Kumar said that while determining user charges, issues like area available and area earmarked for parking, existing charges in adjoining areas like the bus stand and other public places, and the present market value of the land earmarked for parking vis-a-vis its earning potential were considered. Justifying the revision, he said a comparison between the user charges at Mysore Railway station and the KSRTC Mofussil bus stand, showed that it was not “unreasonable”.
He said track doubling work on the Mysore-Bangalore section was likely to be completed in the next six to eight months, resulting in more rail services between the cities. Mr. Anil Kumar said a mechanism is in place to monitor the activities of the licensee so that the users are not exploited.
