Businessman killed in road accident

Bangalore, November 18:  A 60-year-old businessman was killed and two others were injured when a sports utility vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a school van on Kanakpura Main Road on Saturday evening. However, an eight-month-old baby boy, who was travelling with them, had a miraculous escape.

The deceased, identified as Shiva Kumar, a resident of Harohalli on the outskirts of Bangalore, was returning home with his wife, daughter and grandson after visiting a doctor in the city. Shiva Kumar was a quarry owner and also had a transport business.

While the car was near Ravishankar Ashram, Shiva Kumar, while trying to overtake a motorcycle, collided with a school bus coming in the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so high that the car was mangled. Shiva Kumar died on the spot while his wife and daughter sustained injuries. The bus was carrying students returning from school. The police said nobody in the school bus was injured.

Meanwhile, passers-by alerted the police, who reached the spot, summoned an ambulance and rushed the injured persons in the car to a hospital, where the doctors declared Shiva Kumar brought dead.

His wife Shobha and daughter Suhasini are being treated at the hospital.

Shiva Kumar’s son, identified as Bhimesh, who was returning home from college on his two-wheeler noticed the accident, but went ahead. Later, he realised that the car belonged to his family as it had a sticker familiar to him and returned to the spot. The police have taken up a case.
