Bangalore, Nov 12, 2013, DHNS: JD(S) MLA Madhu Bangarappa has alleged that the Siddaramaiah government has failed to implement pro-people programmes even after being in the office for six months.

Addressing reporters in Bangalore on Tuesday, Madhu said the programmes announced in the budget have just remained announcements. Support prices for agriculture produce have not been properly worked out by the government, he said.

The JD(S) leader, who is the chief whip of the Opposition in the Assembly, said that areca growers are in distress as rot disease has hit the plantations. The government has fixed a compensation at Rs 4,800 an acre. But, such a low price would in no way help the growers who have suffered huge losses. The government must announce scientific price, he insisted.

He added that the foot and mouth disease has claimed around 10,000 head of cattle in the State. The government has no proper information in this regard and it is not releasing compensation to farmers who have lost their cattle, he alleged.

Referring to the Anna Bhagya scheme, Madhu said that middlemen are stocking rice and this has led to denial of ration to the APL card holders. The government had announced an incentive of Rs four per litre of milk. But, so far no money has been released. All these issues and more would be raised in the ensuing legislature session in Belgaum, he added.
