Bangalore, Nov 12, 2013, DHNS: The Palace Grounds in Bangalore, the venue of the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s November 17 rally, has already turned into a fortress.

Every entry point to the ground is being guarded by police round the clock. Around 200 police have been deployed at venue and their number is expected to touch 7,000 on the day of the rally.

The city police are leaving no stone unturned in securing the venue and are leaving nothing to chance. A senior official said that all the labourers working at the venue have been issued photo ID cards after a thorough background check. Their fingerprints and home town addresses have also been collected and the city police have corresponded with their counterparts in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and other states from where the labourers hail to check their antecedents.

Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out every day at the venue.

The police have gone for a levelling of the entire venue with a road roller to prevent any landmine being laid. The police have also cleared out all the shrubs and trees at the venue.

A helipad has also been developed next to the main stage, where Modi would land in a helicopter that would bring him from the HAL airport. He would leave for the airport in helicopter immediately after the rally. The main stage is about 12 feet high around which seating arrangement for the public is made in a semi circle. Not even dignitaries are allowed within 60 feet of the stage, double the killing range of any fire arm.

Kamal Pant, Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) said that the main venue would be completely sterile.

He said that the entire venue would be covered by 60 Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) Infra Red cameras that aid a better picture quality even during the night.

Eight of these have been functional already. An officer manning the control said that the clarity of the image is very high.

All entry points to the ground will have metal detectors. No vehicle will be allowed inside the ground on the rally day.

All entry points to Bangalore from neighbouring districts are being guarded. Kamal Pant said the police are expecting a two-lakh crowd turnout.DH News Service
