BANGALORE: A class IX student allegedly stabbed his senior, a class X student, after the latter refused to give ‘hafta’ (extortion) money. Both are students of Prakashnagar government school in Rajajinagar and the incident took place near a juice centre, around 100 metres from the school, Rajajinagar police said.

The injured has been shifted to KC general hospital and his condition is normal, police said. The accused has been handed over to child rehabilitation centre, police added.

It all begun on Monday when Santosh (name changed), a class IX student demanded Rs 2,000 from Chetan (name changed), a class X student. Santosh said that he needed the money immediately as his friend Naveen Kumar, a dropout from the same school, was in need of money. “Naveen is a Srirampura resident and is jobless man. Preliminary investigations revealed that he has been involving in anti-social activities. Few years back, he was caught for robbery attempt and was let off with a warning as he was minor at that time” police said.

According to Manikantan, who works in the fruit juice centre, the three were talking to each other. “I knew that the two boys were from government school. At around 1pm, they were seen walking near our shop. Little later, a third man joined them and they were arguing for sometime,” he said. Suddenly, the victim shouted for help and other two ran away.

“We have detained Santosh and are looking for Naveen Kumar,” police said.
