Bangalore, Sept 13, 2013: A second-year BCom student was killed on the spot when a private school bus struck his bike near Moodalapalya Circle here on Friday morning.

The dead, Ravi Kumar, 20, a student of S Nijalingappa College, Rajajinagar, was not wearing a helmet. He reached the main road near his house at Shivanandanagar at full speed and was proceeding towards Vijayanagar when the accident occurred at around 7.20 am, police said.

Kumaraswamy, who was driving the bus belonging to the National Hill View Public School, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, lost control over the vehicle as he spotted Kumar, and rammed the motorcycle, police added.

“I heard some noise and looked back. The impact of the collision was such that Kumar’s head was severed from his body and thrown across the road,” Vittal, a college student who witnessed the horrible accident, told Deccan Herald. “The bus driver drove away at top speed.” Kumaraswamy then headed for the school, dropped the children and informed the management about the accident. The school authorities took him to the police station and handed him over. Later, he  was produced before a court which remanded him in judicial custody, police said.

The school termed the accident “unfortunate” and said it would ensure children were ferried “in a safe way”. “In 13 years, this is the first time an unfortunate incident has occurred. We make sure children are picked and dropped safely,” said a senior co-ordinator at the school, Sharma, who refused to disclose his second name.
