BANGALORE, September 14:  From September 20, people applying for passports under the ‘tatkaal’ category will have to book appointments and visit the passport seva kendra (PSK) at the given time.

A press release here on Friday said the tatkaal appointments would be released two days before the date of service. The number of tatkaal appointments for the four PSKs in Karnataka are: Lalbagh — 115, Marathahalli — 60, Hubli — 25 and Mangalore — 30.

The regional passport office here has also reviewed the system of accepting applications under ‘walk-in’ categories, so as to “ensure that applicants are given convenient, assured, high-quality and time-based services”.

From September 20, people in only the following categories will be eligible for walk-ins between 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m.: senior citizens (60 years and above); people with disabilities; children below three years of age whose parents hold valid passports, with one of the parent’s passport containing the spouse’s name; applications for issue of police clearance certificate; ‘on hold’ files; Union government employees and their minor children; and applicants who were refused token because they didn’t have necessary documents (they can re-visit the PSKs in the next three working days).

Exempted
Three categories of applications — those aged between three and 15, applications for reissue of passport because of change in ECR status, and tatkaal applicants — which were accepted as walk-in applicants have been exempted now and will have to get online appointments for submission of passport applications.
