Ramya takes stock of work in her constituency

Mandya, September 11:  Ramya, MP, has said she is committed to work for the development of the district, and has promised to revive the State-owned Mysore Sugar Company Ltd. (Mysugar) and Pandavapura Sahakari Sakkare Karkhane (PSSK) in the district.

The actor-turned-politician was on her maiden visit to the constituency on Tuesday after winning the recent byelections from the Mandya Parliamentary constituency.

She took part in a meeting at the Mandya Zilla Panchayat auditorium and reviewed the progress of several projects. Requesting support from officials to make Mandya a “model constituency”, she said she could not achieve her goals without their support.

Mandya Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P.C. Jayanna briefed the meet that the district administration has issued job cards to around 1.72 lakh people under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act in the district.

K.M. Shivakumar, superintendent of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, said MIMS would get a CT scanner in the next two months.

Officials also told Ms. Ramya that they had successfully implemented the Anna Bhagya project through 728 fair price shops in the district. Food and Civil Supplies Department officials said around 71,000 people had applied for ration cards in the district; cards had been issued to 3,000 people so far.

The new MP was seen enthusiastically noting down points throughout the meeting.

Superintendent of Police Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, Additional DC K.M. Gayatri, Additional SP M. Puttamadappa, Assistant Commissioner Shantha L. Hulmani and tahsildar B.K. Mamatha were among those present at the meeting.

Speaking to presspersons, Ms. Ramya said she would frequently tour the district to know the plight of the people.

She said she would take steps to improve infrastructure at government schools. “I will visit villages and schools to study the problems. Later, I will write to the Centre to request assistance to improve infrastructure at villages across the constituency,” she said.

She wanted to involve the corporate sector in accomplishing her developmental goals. “My term as MP is for a very short period and I will take up development work on priority,” she said.

She also inspected the Mysugar factory.
