KOLAR_Kolar, September 6:  Members of various progressive organisations staged protests outside taluk offices in the district on Thursday demanding the arrest of the main accused in the July 10 murders of a young woman and her daughter in an alleged case of dowry harassment.

Functionaries of outfits such as the CPI(M), JMS, DYFI, SFI, CITU, KPRS, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, Tippu Secular Sene and Samata Sainik Dal took out a procession from the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises, where an indefinite dharna is being staged from August 21. They formed a human chain at Mekke Circle and burnt an effigy of the “district administration” for its “failure” to arrest the accused S.K. Santoshkumar. Later, the protesters laid siege to the taluk office.

Their counterparts in Mulbagal, Bangarpet, Malur and Srinivasapur staged protests outside the respective taluk offices and submitted memorandums, addressed to the Chief Minister, to officials.

Charge against police

Meanwhile, relatives of Santoshkumar staged a protest outside the office of the Superintendent of Police here on Wednesday alleging police harassment.

The protesters, including the parents of the accused, S.R. Krishnappa and Chinamma, claimed they were unaware of Santoshkumar’s whereabouts. We will inform the police if we get any clue about him and hand him over to the police if we find him. The police should stop harassing us, they said.
