SwatantraBangalore ;August 9, 2013: The Akhila Karnataka Rajya Swatantra Yodhara Mattu Uttaradhikarigala Mahasamsthe, on Friday, urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to nominate freedom fighters to the Upper House of the State Legislature.

In his inaugural speech at a high tea hosted by Governor H R Bhardwaj to the freedom fighters to mark the anniversary of Quit India Movement, Mahasamsthe president S V T Gupta said it has become a practice to nominate writers, cine actors and artistes to the Legislative Council. But freedom fighters have been neglected. Freedom fighters should also be given an opportunity to be part of the law-making process, he added.

He also urged the government to extend all support to the association to organise the second convention of all India freedom fighters in Chitradurga this year. The date of the convention will be fixed shortly after obtaining permission from the chief minister, he added.

Governor H R Bhardwaj assured that he will take up their cause and said he has already directed the government to fulfil all their demands.
