Mumbai: Actress Karisma Kapoor was given custody of her children by the Supreme Court on Friday. Ms Kapoor’s estranged husband Sunjay Kapur has been granted visitation rights.

The former couple have been engaged in a bitter divorce and custody battle for some months. A Mumbai court will now make the divorce final.

A house in Mumbai owned by Sanjay Kapur’s family has been transferred to Karisma Kapoor. The monthly interest from bonds of Rs 14 crore bought by Mr Kapur for the couple’s children will be used to pay their expenses.

Sunjay Kapur applied for custody of their children – an 11-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son – in December 2015.

In February this year, Karisma Kapoor filed a case of dowry harassment against her estranged husband and his mother. The Supreme Court dismissed the dowry case on Friday.

The divorce petition filed by Mr Kapur reportedly claimed that Ms Kapoor had married him for his money.

Karisma Kapoor, now 41, married Sunjay Kapur in 2003.

Ms Kapoor, star of films like Zubeidaa and Biwi No 1, hasn’t been seen on screen since 2012’s Dangerous Ishhq. “I selectively leave the house. I think family and my kids are most important. So, I’m very happy being at home,” Karisma Kapoor told news agency IANS in February.
