Bangalore, May 22: The Regional Passport Office, in an effort to make it easier for the people to obtain appointments to apply for passports, has decided to open up slots for more number of days.

The new system, which comes into effect from Thursday, will enable the people to book an appointment anytime between the next seven and 21 days. Earlier, people could book an appointment only for the second and third days.

For instance, in the earlier system, anyone booking on Monday could get appointments for the next Wednesday and Thursday only. With the new system, anyone booking on Monday will now get appointments from the next Monday and the following 14 days.

At present, the office releases a total of 1,660 appointments a day across the four Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) in Bangalore, Mangalore and Hubli-Dharwad. Moreover, from Thursday, appointments will be released only at 6:30 pm and not 6 pm unlike earlier. The changes have been brought in the face of constant complaints about the lack of availability of appointments.
