Student falls from hostel terrace, dies

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old engineering student died a day after accidentally falling from the second floor of her hostel under the Sampangiramnagar police station limits.

The victim, Lavanya, a native of Y N Hosakote, in Pavagada taluk of Tumakuru district, was staying at Togataveera Kshatriya Sangha Vidyarthi Nilaya. She was a second-year student at the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering, K R Circle, the police said.

She was taken to hospital Sunday afternoon, but failed to respond to treatment and died on Monday. She had gone to the terrace to dry clothes. The moment she stepped on an asbestos sheet, it gave away. She was then rushed to the hospital, the police added.

Man gets mother killed

The Soladevanahalli police have arrested three men in connection with the murder of a woman recently. The suspects are identified as Ravi, Ramanna and their associate.
Ravi had given contract to his associate to murder his mother over an affair, the police said. Ravi is the son of Gangaiah, a barber, and Siddagangamma, 45.

Siddagangamma, a resident of Dasenahalli, had an affair with a man. Ravi used to fight with her over the same and told her to end the affair, but she ignored his warnings, the police said. Ravi conspired to murder Siddagangamma and gave the contract to kill her to his associate for Rs one lakh. The associate murdered her at a farm land on Hesaraghatta main road on November 17. He robbed her gold chain and fled, the police said.

Ravi was picked up for questioning as he would often fight with his mother. During the interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime, police said.
