08MN_JAIN_GOV_2236869fHUBBALLI: Taking serious exception to the mounting female foeticide cases in the country, Governor Vajubhai Vala has underscored the need to address the issue in a focussed manner. He was inaugurating the ‘Chandraprabha Sabha Bhavan’ constructed to mark the centenary celebrations at the Digambar Jain Boarding in Hubballi on Sunday.

Highlighting the paradox of the Indian culture, the Governor said, “We respect women, worship them saying that they are the incarnation of Shakti, but we kill them before they are born.”

Condemning the view that girls are a burden and boys a boon, Mr. Vala said that if provided with the right opportunities at the right time, girls would fare better than boys and it had been proven in many cases.

Underscoring the need to take up the issue seriously, he said that otherwise there would be serious gender imbalance. Despite several regulations and government schemes, female foeticide was yet to stop, the Governor said, adding that only a change in the mindset will be able to check female foeticide.

Lauding the contributions of the Jain community, MP and BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said that the contribution of the community to society was immense.
