Bengaluru: Master L. Anjiniah (12), a student of a school managed by the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled won the coveted National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement (2014).
Anjiniah received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi.
Master Anjiniah is orthopedically handicapped and belongs to a below poverty line (BPL) family from Hampasagara in Bellary district. He is being raised by his widowed mother, a daily wage worker.
Though he was born with underdeveloped hands, he is artistically inclined. He uses his feet to write and paint.
The President also gave away National Award for Child Welfare (2013) under the institutions category to the Samarthanam Trust during the occasion. Founder Managing Trustee of the organisation Mahantesh G.K. received the award.
Celebrations: Meanwhile street plays and other festivities marked Children’s Day in the city on Friday. Child Rights and You (CRY) organised a street play in four locations in the city. Forty students and CRY volunteers from Christ University and Bangalore Institute of Legal Studies (BILS) presented the street plays.
