Lokayukta raid unearths lapses in PWD tenders

BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police raided the office of the Executive Engineer (EE) of the Public Works Department (PWD) on Wednesday night following a complaint of procedural lapses and corruption in awarding tenders. The police seized about 550 files, containing incriminating materials, during the raid.

The Lokayukta police received a complaint on Wednesday by one B. Shankar, a contractor in Uttanahalli in Bengaluru North. He had alleged of corruption and violation of rules in tender procedure.

“On November 23, 25 and 28, tenders were invited from eligible contractors for taking up 102 different works under district and other roads, and also SC and ST basic infrastructure
development component which amounts to Rs 7.97 crore.

The last date for receiving the tenders were November 25, 27 and 29. They had to be opened on the closing date and the lowest bidder awarded the work order.

The complainant had alleged of irregularities in the allotment of tenders,” the Lokayukta police said.

The sleuths are questioning the EE, Assistant Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineers and other office staff involved in the tender procedure. Further investigations are on.
