RAICHUR:  City Municipal Council’s (CMC) General Body meeting convened here on Monday for discussing developmental issues witnessed a war of words among its members over minor issues. Just as the meeting began, some of the members raised the issues that were not on agenda and paving way for intense exchange of heated words for next few hours.

Congress member Mehaboob demanded clarification from president Mahadevamma on her letter to Deputy Commissioner demanding disqualification of CMC members who ousted her from the president post a few months ago.

“Some members had allegedly bribed the president with Rs. 8 lakh for going on long leave so that they can take control over CMC and get their work done in her absence. The General Body should take the issue seriously and pass a resolution,” he demanded.

Senior Congress member Jayanna and other members joined him and thickened the anti-president waves. Some members, including Mahaling Rampur, Harish Nadagowda, Pavan Kumar and others demanded to take up agenda points alone for discussion by not to allowing personal allegations and counter-allegations.

Another senior member Mareppa intervened and tried to calm down the enraged members. He appealed the president to apologise for her alleged personal attack.

President Mahadevamma, however, refused to apologise by justifying her public statements. After much persuasion, she offered apology twice.

Before the issue was settled, JD(S) member P.Yellappa alleged that the agenda was provided at eleventh hour and demanded for adjournment of meeting. The meeting was adjourned without deliberating any major agenda points.
