Lucknow;  Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has said that he will not allow the country to be defenceless against the enemy. He, however, declined to comment on India’s relations with its neighbours, stating that he needed some time to study the situation.

Stating that the country’s ties with its neighbours was a “sensitive issue”, the Minister stated that he would first understand it and would talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Parrikar said it was at about 11.35 p.m. on Sunday that he came to know about being given the Defence portfolio.

Talking to journalists at the BJP headquarters after filing his nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh on Monday, Mr. Parrikar said he felt proud after submitting his papers from the State, which had given “several big leaders” and was the “land of Rama and Krishna.”
