BELGAUM: Three persons have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the district’s Hukkeri taluk. Two of the accused are minor.
According to police, the incident took place on February 6 in Hukkeri taluk’s Kanagala village in the district. It came to light when the victims’ parents chanced upon an MMS clip of the alleged sexual assault that was doing the rounds for a couple of months.
Of the three accused, Maruti Mali, 19, was produced before the court and sent to jail. The two minors — 16 and 17-year-olds — have been sent to Belgaum’s remand home. One of the accused is a close relative of victim’s family, according to police sub-inspector Ramachandra Ballari.
After the alleged sexual assault, the group of three boys reportedly bought the victim’s silence by threatening her to expose with the MMS clip if she goes to the police.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the Sankeshwar police on Sunday.
