Hubli: The construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya is part of the BJP’s election manifesto and it is the responsibility of the party-led NDA government to fulfil that assurance, said Praveen Togadia, international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishat / KPN

The construction of a Ram temple at Ayodhya is part of the BJP’s election manifesto and it is the responsibility of the party-led NDA government to fulfil that assurance, said Praveen Togadia, international working president of Vishwa Hindu Parishat.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, he said the VHP had not deviated from its objective of constructing a Ram mandir.

“The construction of the mandir at Ayodhya is a major oath taken by the VHP. Parliament should enact a law in this regard,” he said.

He said the VHP’s key demands included a ban on cow slaughter and religious conversion, cancellation of Article 370, introduction of a uniform civil code, and rehabilitation of Hindus driven out of Kashmir.

“The Parishat does not support any political party, but backs a Hindu society. In its election manifesto, the BJP has included the aspirations of the Hindu society and we hope it will address them,” he said.

‘Love Jihad’

When asked about Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement about ‘Love Jihad’, Togadia said, “He might have become too busy after becoming a minister. We are ready to give him information about Love Jihad.”

Singh had recently said that he had no knowledge of Love Jihad.

Togadia said the VHP was not against love and marriage, but opposed forcible conversion of Hindu girls in the name of love and marriage.

Most Hindu girls who marry boys of a particular community are forcibly converted and there would have been no problem if both the boy and the girl were allowed to practise their own religion even after marriage.

“It is not love, but jihad, which the Hindu society does not tolerate,” he said.
