Puttur, August 20: The Honorary editor of ‘Sanmarga’ Kannada weekly, Mr P Noor Mohammed (72), breathed his last yesterday. He was travelling by a two-wheeler which was hit by a truck from behind on Tuesday night August 19th. Mohammed wason his way home after performing Namaz at Maszudul Huda in Nekkilady in the taluk, when this tragedy happened.

The truck hit the two-wheeler Honda Activa and Mohammed was tossed from his vehicle onto the road. He was riding home near Nekkilady on the national highway 75. He was badly injured and breathed his last on the spot. The truck driver moved on without attending the victim. A case is filed in the traffic police station.

Noor Mohammed was the founder editor of ‘Sanmarga’. He is survived by four sons and three daughters. He had translated several Malayalam and Urdu works into Kannada. He was working on translating Quran into Kannada since sometime.

The residents of this area have been complaining about danger caused to the lives of the people using these highways by  the carelessly driven heavy vehicles moving about on national highway in Uppinangady, Nekkilady, Mani, Perne etc. The drivers of these vehicles care two hoots for road rules, capacity of vehicles and need to give importance to safety, many stated. Illegal sand mining activity has also resulted in the increase in number of vehicles on the road, which is the cause for several hit-and-run cases each month. Many by passers and two-wheeler riders have expired due to these vehicles which have no concern for fellow road users, they complained.
