Bantwal, August08: There are certain instances where slip of the tongue has led to some disaster. A chair in Ira Panchayat had slipped, which aroused a clash between the members because of which at least two persons were beaten up.
On Thursday August 08th, the incident occurred during the meeting of Ira Panchayat. The meeting was postponed fifteen days ago , after which it was held. An issue related to 18.15 acres of land at Kandattattu which comes under Ira gram panchayat limits was brought up by Harish Ira, a local during the meeting. He reported that the land which was meant for building shelters for the poor had been illegally swallowed up by ruling local congress.
Taluk panchayat member Pushpalata Karkera and the president of Mudipu block Congress told him not to raise the issue, since it had led to postponement of the meeting 15 days ago and would end up with the same resulting in arguments further.
A lot of argument had taken place and the members frequently requested Mr Harish Ira to sit who finally calmed down. His chair had accidently moved and he fell down when he was about to sit.
It was mistaken to be a deliberate push by the other party members and some of the Harish’s supporters who were disappointed, started protesting. The situation worsened to a state where the members of the two groups began to argue and thrash each other.
In the mean time, Harish and an activist identified as Ibrahim were beaten up.
The Bantwal Cops arrived on the spot and the situation was brought under control with their intervention. But the parties refused beating up any one.
