Pension under Maithri Scheme provided to sexual minorities, ID cards distributed

Mangalore, Aug 02: Pension Facility was distributed to four sexual minorities under Maithri Scheme at a function held in the city on August 1, Friday. In the function that was jointly organised by the District Administration, Department of Women and Child Development and Navasahaja Samudaya Sanghatane, 30 members belonging to the sexual minorities group were also distributed Identity Cards.

The facility to the beneficiaries was distributed by JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South. MLC Ivan D’Souza, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim and other officials were present.

The Navasahaja Samudaya Sanghatane (R) Mangalore has been functioning with the objective of the welfare and development of sexual minorities in Dakshina Kannada district. The organisation has around 1,672 registered members in the district. The organisation is also striving to secure jobs to sexual minorities in accordance to their educational qualification through the Employment Exchange.

A financial aid of Rs 7 lakhs has also been extended to 20 members of SHGs and 15 sexual minorities for self-employment purposes.
