Mangalore, July 23: “The existing law of Indian constitution is capable of severely punishing criminals in rape and sexual harassment with life imprisonment and execution. The constitution has been amended after the Nirbhaya Case,” said Legislative council member Ivan D’Souza.
Speaking in the Legislative council affirmation, he suggested that, “awareness should be created among all sections of the society, only law cannot do much. Parents should educate their children.”
“In earlier days, rape and sexual harassment cases wouldn’t come to light due to fear, but now things are changing, people are taking up courage to inform parents/police about the incident. It should be also taken care that the informer is protected. The persons or journalists who make such incidents known are always threatened, their protection is important,” he added.
