Mangalore, July 21: Quarry owners have been directed by the Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim to close all open pits within the next five days.
“The respective Gram Panchayats, Tahsildars and Village Accountants should ensure that the orders are adhered to,” DC added.
The order has come in the wake of July 20, tragedy wherein five children lost their lives after slipping into open quarry pits at Mijar and Beluvai. Following the DC’s directive all quarries in the district will remain defunct for the next five days.
