Mangalore, May 29: A contractor and his brother on Wednesday May 28 allegedly abducted and assaulted a daily wage labourer on charges that he had committed a theft. Even the Konaje police were made to beat him harshly by the contractor it is said.
Mohammed Barik (28), a resident of Harekala, was hospitalized after being allegedly beaten up by contractor Sattar, his brother Asif and the police of Konaje.
It is said that Sattar took away Barik in his Omni car, saying that there was some work for him. As they reached Sevantigudde area, Sattar and his brother Asif reportedly assaulted Barik for committing theft at their house.
Barik was threatened by the duo and they demanded to know whether he had committed a theft in their house. They then handed him over to the Konaje police. In the police station the sub-inspector and a constable in the presence of Sattar, assaulted Barik with wooden sticks and iron rods forcing him to admit the theft it is alleged.
DYFI condemns the assault
The assault on Barik was condemned by DYFI, they said that a complaint would be lodged with higher police officials. A protest will be launched if action is not taken against the guilty, threatened Rafik Harekala of DYFI.
