Mangalore: A.J. Hospital & Research Centre has performed complex cardiac procedures and surgeries with excellent results. It has conducted various rare surgeries and procedures.
A 12 year old girl was suffering from breathing difficulty while playing. She was evaluated and found to have a hole in the heart – Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). VSDs were earlier closed by open heart surgery. For the first time in Mangalore the VSD was closed in the Cathlab with a button like device made of Nitinol. Doctors at A.J. Hospital have completed this procedure successfully and the patient is recovering well.
The procedure was done by Dr. Prem Alva, Consultant Pediatric Cardiologist, A.J. Hospital & Research Centre and was assisted by Cardiac Anesthesiologist Dr. Gururaj Tanthry.
