Udupi, May 6:  Two persons said to be the associates of Kali Yogish were arrested on May 5, Monday by Hebri police on the charges of threatening a businessman for extortion. Kali Yogish is considered the right hand of underworld don Ravi Poojari.

Nitin Kumar (23) of Karkala and Siddique (26) of Balepuni are the arrested persons. Police have seized a pistol and a mobile phone from them. The criminals were produced before the Karkala court and remanded to judicial custody for 12 days.

The accused had reportedly visited the house of a businessman on April 25 and threatened him demanding hafta. Sources say, Kali Yogish had called the businessman in February and had demanded Rs 50 lakhs. The two made a follow up in April.

The accused were arrested on similar charges last year after they had threatened a businessman named Joy.  After being released in this case, they were arrested yet again on the charges of planning a dacoity in Konaje police station limits.

Nitin and Siddique used to collect the mobile numbers of rich businessmen of Karkala and Udupi and then hand it over to Kali Yogish who later called them and demand hafta. The two used to then visit the houses of the businessmen and threaten again.
