To nurture and care for the environment is a core value of the educational ethos that Regent International School promotes amongst its student body.
Students recently took part in “Time to Go Green”, an environmental initiative of the UAE Green Festival. RIS participated and partnered with sponsor, TIME Hotels. Students along with the school’s parent body planted a number of trees at the school.
The UAE Green Festival is an annual event that is held between the 16th of March and 16th of April every year. The event is a countrywide celebration that is specifically designed to educate people about sustainability and environmental conservation and to promote the UAE as a leading green destination that provides its residents and visitors with a better quality of life.
Students gave names to trees symbolising the event and values of the school. The first tree was christened, Regent, after the school. Other trees were named after the five universal values that students learn about in the education in human values programme, a key feature at Regent where students learn of values such as love, truth, peace, right conduct and non-violence.
A selected group of art students also submitted paintings with a central theme of “Time To Go Green” and their work is currently on display at the school’s reception and TIME Oak Hotel’s lobby for the duration of the festival. Three outstanding pieces of art were selected by key members of TIME Hotel and students were rewarded with a host of prizes.
Speaking about the initiative, Ms. Janet O’Keefe, director at the school said “Regent is thrilled to be a part of the UAE Green Festival once again. The festival resonates with the values our school espouses and encourages good citizenship within our student body.”
