Bantwal, Apr 26: The much controversial Brahmarakootlu toll gate at Bantwal, turned serious as the protesters barged into the toll booths and destroyed the place on April 26, Saturday.
After the inauguration of the new toll gate, the residents of Bantwal have been holding protests against the staffs for collecting exorbitant toll charges and for rude behavior with the commuters.
It is learnt that Nagarika Hitarakshana Samiti along with local Congress leaders had conducted a massive protest on April 25 Friday, demanding to shift the toll gate and stop the collection of toll charges.
Whereas on April 26, Saturday, Bajrang Dal activists staged a protest at the toll gate blocking the road for some time and as they dispersed, another group arrived at the spot and vandalized the booths. According to the eyewitnesses, the group who vandalized the booth was general public and not Bajrang Dal activists. But during the course of protest, activists used foul language against the lady DySP Rashmi Paradi, who tried to control the situation.
Speaking on the occasion, ZP member Thumbay Shetty said that Congress workers were not involved in the attack and the matter worsened after a toll booth staff allegedly snatched the key from a car driver at the booth.
SP Shantanu Sinha rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
