Death toll goes up to 11 in tanker tragedy

MANGALORE: The LPG bullet tanker accident at Perne, Uppinangady has claimed its 11th victim with Ajjimma (78) succumbing to burns on Tuesday.

Hospital sources said the victim had suffered 50% deep burn injuries. She was responding to treatment well, but in the last two days as her wounds were deep it has led to sepsis. Finally she died due to multi organ failure,” the private hospital authority said.

The victim’s kin had shifted her from Government District Wenlock Hospital a couple of days after the incident to the private hospital.

In the accident which occurred on April 9, eight persons died and three suffered severe burns in a fire that broke out after a Bangalore bound LPG tanker overturned at Perne, near Uppinangady. The Bangalore-bound, multi-axle tanker was transporting 16 tonnes of LPG for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.
