MANGALORE: Home team Badaga Yedapadav bagged the overall best village trophy with Rs 1 lakh prize at Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Kreedotsava – III village games tournament that concluded at Shasthavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple, Badaga Yedapadav, Mijar on Sunday. The trophy winners were determined on points system with points being awarded on the number of wins recorded by each village in the different game categories.
While the winner got 222 points, Team Madappady, Sullia that bagged the second place and Rs 50,000 bagged 189 points. Team Sangabettu, Bantwal that finished third with 146 points took home Rs 10,000 while Team Ariyadka, Puttur which bagged 47 points was richer by Rs 5,000. The winning team received the trophy amidst much jubilation from the event coordinator and entrepreneur Vijaynath Vittal Shetty on Sunday night
There were 40 games in 70 categories with an aggregate prize money of over Rs 15 lakh. This is the third year of the event. This year there were a record number of 2,900 entries and Vijaynath Shetty expressed his gratitude to all concerned for making the event a great success. In addition to celebrities like film stars Shivadwaj, Haripriya and Shubha Poonja who visited the event to encourage the participants on Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday, the crowds were elated to see their favourite cricketers Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, music director Guru Kiran, actor Prem and film producer Avinash. Former Minister Nagaraj Shetty too visited the mela on Sunday. The event concluded with a spell binding live music concert by the famous playback singer Rajesh Krishnan and his team. He was accompanied by singer Dr Shamitha Malnad and a professional dance troupe.
