Sri Lankan boat poaches in Indian seas, Coast Guards seize the boat

Mangalore, April 9: ‘Colombo Marine,’ a high seas tuna long liner from Srilanka was seized on the charges of illegal entry and poaching in the seas of Indian EEZ at Chereapani Reef, about 188 nautical miles off the New Mangalore Coast. The operations were performed by the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Rajdoot’ in co-ordination with Coast Guard Surveillance Aircraft Dornier 776.

‘Colombo Marine’ had two tons of sea cucumbers and unauthorised fishing gears. There were 16 Sri Lankan fishermen on board the vessel, according to RM Sharma, Commander of Coast Guard.

It is learnt that a fishing boat ‘St Antony’ also came to the assistance of the Coast Guard in the operation. The Sri Lankan vessel was seized on April 7, Monday evening after an operation that lasted four hours.
