All 17 nominations filed by candidates from DK constituency are valid: DC

Mangalore, Mar 28: Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim who is also the District Returning Officer said that he has scrutinized the nominations submitted by candidates from various political parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on March 27, Thursday and all were found valid.

Speaking at the meeting held at DC Office on Thursday, in the presence of on March 27, Thursday, DC said that a total of 17 candidates are in the battle from the constituency. However the final list of candidates will obtain on March 28,Friday evening since it is the last date for withdrawal of nominations and candidates can withdraw nomination till 3 pm.

Giving the details of 17 candidates, DC said that four candidates from recognized parties including B Janardhan Poojary (Congress), Nalin Kumar Kateel (BJP), K Yadava Shetty CPI(M), Moose Kunhi (BSP), while three candidates including MR Vasudeva (AAP), Supreeth Kumar Poojari (HJP) and Mohammad Haneef Khan (SDPI) which are registered but not recognized and rest are independent candidates.

He also said that there are total of 1103 army personnel in the Indian army belong to Dakshina Kannada district. Postal ballot system will be made available to these people after Election Commission will give its permission. In Sullia there are 344 service voters while Mangalore has 55 service voters. The postal ballots will be sent through Mangalore and Puttur sub division officials to the soldiers.

The DC also said that around 24 cases of violation of election code of conduct and 16 cases pertaining to Excise Department have been registered so far. FIR has been filed in 10 cases and the amount of Rs 8.6 lakhs cash has been seized in connection to it.
