Mangalore, Mar 20: Residential building turns out to be the source of danger to the residents of a Dalit colony at Pumpwell. The building is coming up just in front of the colony and causes trouble to the inmates.

The foundation for the building has been laid and the ground dug up. However, the digging has extended to such a wide area that residents of the colony, especially of two houses, are now living in anxiety, as rain may result in the collapse of the houses.

On Thursday March 20, based on a complaint by colony residents Malathi, Bhagirathi and Yashoda, Mayor Mahabala Maarla and corporator Asha D’Silva inspected the spot. The colony residents said that when they questioned the builder as to what they should do if it rains and their houses collapse, they were told that there would be alternative arrangements made for their rehabilitation, but so far nothing has been done.

It is learnt that the construction has been stopped and will be allowed to resume only after the residents are shifted by the builder. The contractor and engineers working on the building will meet Asha D’Silva to discuss the issue.
