Mangalore, Mar 20: The Lokayukta officials conducted a raid at the public works department (PWD) to check the irregularities in the Bangalore-Jalsur State Highway 85 which passes through Sullia taluk on March 19, Wednesday.
The Lokayukta officials have filed cases against Project Management Consultant Supervisor Ratnakar, Assistant Engineer from Mangalore PWD Tammayya Gowda and Executive Engineer Gopal Nayak.
The Lokayukta team was led by Deputy Superintendent ofLokayukta police Umesh G Shet. Speaking on the occasion, he said that many other contractors who are involved in the irregularities have also been booked. The documents will be submitted to the court and strict action taken against them.
He said that the tender of road construction project was accepted by Sharif Construction on October 5, 2012 and the work commenced on November 15, 2012. The project work involved road widening upto 5.5 meters for about 33.28 km and construction of roads in some parts at the estimated amount of Rs 22.05 crore. But though the half of this amount has been used, no road construction and widening have been taken place.
The team conducted the verification work of several documents at the office of Executive Engineer Gopal Nayak.
