Mangalore, Mar 16: All India Konkani Writers’ Organisation (AIKWO) organised Karnataka Konkani Literary Conference at Kalaangann, Shaktinagar on March 16,Sunday.
Speaking as the the resource person, Dr Anil Pinto, registrar, Christ University, Bangalore said that the Konkani writers must explore the possibility of introducing their literary works through online, in order to reach wider audience.
Speaking on the topic, Anil urged the Konkani wirters to to make use of blogs, social networking sites and Wikipedia to explore their writings. At present there is very less information in Konkani available on the internet, hence writers must make use of online portals and provide information about every churches in Wikipedia and make it the works rich on the internet.
Renowned columnist and language activist from Bangalore Vasant Shetty, spoke on the topic ‘Fighting globalisatin and strengtherning one’s roots’, while Fausto Da Costa, editor, Gulab, Goa spoke on, ‘Konkani literature in the Roman script’.
Konkani litterateur Fr Mark Valdar inaugurated the literary conference and said that 25 year back Konkani was facing crisis of existence as people had doubted on the existence in future. But today bthere is hope that language will surely survive and this is possible because of many organizations working for it.
AIKWO president Vince Quadros said that Konkani language is written in five scripts and all the scrits are equally respected. He urged Konkani speaking people living across the state and outside to comit themselves to work for the development of Konkani.
The remaining three literary conferences will be held in Kerala in May, Maharashtra in August and Goa in October.
Mandd Sobhann gurkaar Eric Ozario, informed that a workshop on Wikipedia will be held at Kalaangann on April 6.
Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy was honoured on the occasion.
A collection of children’s stories by J F D’Souza, titled ‘Bhangarachem Suknnem’ was released. Apart from it, 11 young poets presented their works in the poets’ meet.
Kalakul staged a short drama titled ‘Bodlavonn?’ (Change) on the occasion.
