Mangalore, Mar 15: The new parallel Netravathi Bridge on the National Highway 66 constructed by the Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt Ltd for the National Highway Authority of India will be open on March 20.
The newly constructed three-lane bridge which is 800 meter long and 12 meter wide, has 23 pillars and has pre-cast concrete girders and will be open for vehicles moving from Pumpwell to Thokkottu and the old bridge will be used for the vehicles moving from opposite direction.
According to the NHAI officials, the old bridge had the capacity to facilitate on 12,500 passenger car units per day, resulting frequent traffic blockades, but the new bridge will facilitate 35000 passenger car units per day.
The construction of new bridge has taken up as a part of the NH widening project taken place between Nanthur to Talapady and Suratkal to Kundapur under Phase III of National Highways Development Project.
Prior to the rainy season, the old bridge will be closed for the repair purpose, after the new bridge is opened.
