Mangalore, Mar 11: On Monday March 10, Mulky town panchayat gets Meenakshi Bangera and Vasanti Bhandary as its president and vice president respectively.
Returning officer, Ravichandra Nayak, who is Tahsildar of Moodbidri, officially announced the election result at a meeting that was convened after the conclusion of election process. Only two nominations, both from BJP, had been filed for these posts. Other parties chose not to enter the contest, as BJP enjoys absolute majority in the town panchayat, and also has candidates conforming to eligibility criteria.
Meenakshi Bangera belongs to scheduled caste and the post of the president was earmarked for woman candidate from scheduled caste category. Meenakshi is a first time member of the town panchayat. The post of the vice president was reserved for woman candidate from general category, and it went to Vasanti Bhandary, who has been elected twice to this town panchayat.
