Bantwal Feb 25: The residents of Siddakatte and Karpe in association with local organizations staged a road blockade and demonstration on February 25, Tuesday demanding repair of the Siddakatte-Karpe Zilla Panchayat road.
The protestors, literally cooked ‘Ganji Oota’ right on the middle of the road and served to the protestors, demanding the Public Works Department (PWD) to repair the roads, as soon as possible.
The protestors said that sum of Rs 70 lakhs was required for the repair of the seven km stretch of road and Zilla Panchayat had failed to sanction such a huge amount. Previously, Zilla Panchayat had urged the government to sanction grants but could not get it.
Later they submitted the memorandum to Zilla Panchayat President Koragappa Naik. The copies was handed over to Rural Development and Panchayatraj Department.
Local leaders including Yashodhara Shetty, Michelle D’Costa, Sulochana Bhat and the leaders of Autorickshaw Drivers’ Association were present.
