Mangalore, Feb 24: After long waiting issue of election of Mayor for Mangalore City Corporation, a Divisional Bench of the High Court in an interim judgment stated that Mayoral post will be reserved for general category candidate, while the post of Deputy Mayor will be for the lady candidate from general category.

The Mangalore city corporation election was held in March 2013 and the Congress had won a clear majority, but unfortunately, the JD(S) corporator had moved to court seeking reservation for lady candidate for the post of mayor.

The High Court has instructed the state government to hold the Mayoral elections as per the fixed reservations.

Out of the 60 wards in MCC, Congress had won in 35 wards, BJP in 20, while CPI, Independents and other parties won each seat.
