Mangalore, Feb 24: The special attraction to entry for port city with beautiful 26-ft Kalasha located at Mahaveer circle at Pumpwell is being demolished to construct a two-way flyover connecting Nantoor – Thokkottu National highway.
The National Highway Authority of India has taken up the work of demolishing Mahaveera Circle on the NH 66, in order to make way for a flyover in that area to ease the traffic.
NHAI officer Sriram Mishra said that the 90 meter long and 24 meter wide two -lane flyover will be constructed between Nantur-Pumpwell. He also said that before the commencement of flyover works, a service road will be laid.
Though there was opposition to this demolition in the beginning, now all the problems have been sorted out to facilitate highway expansion.
The existing Kalasha will be likely to shift to the nearby ground at the Pumpwell Circle.
