Mangalore : ‘Our girls: Our pride ‘said Dr. M. Narendra MJF. Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank. He was speaking as a Guest of Honor on the occasion of Lions Regional Conference, ‘SAMMILANA’ at Loyola Hall. He lauded the Lions fraternity on the humanitarian services they are rendering and highlighted the role of Lionesses in strengthening Lionism. He emphasized the need to educate and empower women and said that Indian Overseas Bank has sponsored education of hundred girls at a cost of Rs. Twelve Lakhs. He briefly touched upon the present economic scenario and said that NGOs like Lions could play a vital role.
Dr. Sonda Bhaskar Bhat, Head of the Sanskrit Department, SDPT College, Kateel, in his key note address, laid stress on the need to re-orient our “Educational System”, giving importance to our age-old and time-tested traditions.
“SAMMILANA” was inaugurated by MJF Lion P. Nirmala Kini, the first lady of the Region on 16th February 2014. The programme was well organized by the Conference Committee led by MJF Lion K. Venugopal Shenoy and presided over by PMJF Lion P. Sadashiva Kini, the Region Chairperson, Regional Lions Clubs made a grand Banner presentation. Chief Advisor PMJF Lion Dr. M. Santhosh Kumar Shastri and MJF Lion Kavitha S. Shastri ably guided. Lion Rajina Dinesh and Leo Saheel Rai compeered the programme. The programme was well attended.
