Mangalore, Feb 6: In order to prevent the spread of nightmarish rumours of clashes, the Ullal police have imposed prohibitory orders in Ullal and surrounding areas on Feb 7, Friday.
According to the police the locals pay heed to false rumours and take action against destructive activities. They had also prevented a group of miscreants’ who had made an attempt to trigger violence in area by spreading many rumours.
Based on the rumours, the group of people from Mogaveerapattana had rushed to Kodi area and assaulted a youth and destroyed three boats, due to which a tensed atmosphere created in the area.
Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader had met hospitalized youth Manish and visited the damaged houses on Thursday. He also appealed the locals to maintain peace in area and not pay attention to rumours.
On the other hand, group of BJP activists led by state vice-president Sulochana Bhat and former deputy speaker N Yogish Bhat also visited the damaged houses at Mogaveerapattana.
Later the police had to use baton charge and tear-gas to disperse the mob.
According to the sources, over 70 persons have been taken into custody and produced in court, while few are taken to Wenlock hospital for check-up.
The people from city are not moving towards Ullal area, while the people from that area too are not going out of houses, creating Curfew atmosphere in the Ullal area.
