Mangalore, Feb 6: Following the terrified incident of vandalism by miscreants in Ullal area, police imposed Section 144 to control the situation on Feb 5, Wednesday from 5 pm and will go on till February 7, Friday 5 pm. The locals on their own interest closed down their establishment and offices, to condemn the situation.
Reportedly, the incident was blown up when some miscreant’s allegedly tried to molest a woman and also assaulted a youth who came to help her. Later at night, they also said to have knocked the door of Satish Kotian, a resident of Mogaveerapatna, when his wife replied, they held her hands and assaulted her son who intervened. The boy was later admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte.
Looking at the situation, some youths from Mogaveerapatna who were moving towards Kotepura were confronted by a rival group and thus clashes erupted leading stone pelting on four houses and other vandalism.
Out of some miscreants, one had left behind his bike at a house in Mogaveerapatna and later came to fetch it and was assaulted by the locals and handed over to police. It is also said that two youths had abused some women using vulgar language; in turn they had tried to forcibly enter into a mosque but were stopped by police.
The locals were angered by the incident gheraoed the police station and cops had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd.
To control the situation, Deputy Commissioner of police, five inspectors from the city police commissionerate and four teams of Karnataka state reserve police were deployed to tighten the security.
