DC directs authorities to display ChildLine Number in all schools and anganavadis

Mangalore, Feb 4: There is necessity of creating awareness on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act among the public, said Deputy Commissioner A.B.Ibrahim.

He was speaking after presiding over the District Level Vigilance Committee meeting on prevention of women and child trafficking, convened at DC office on February 3, Monday.

Speaking on the reported cases of sexual harassment of children and child trafficking, DC directed the authorities to display board of Childline No. 1098 in all Anganavadis and schools in district.

DDPI Moses Jayashekhar, said that the education department has instructed all schools and colleges to hold compulsory awareness programmes for children during prayer sessions.

CWC Chairperson Asha Nayak, said that it is sad to know the fact that only 5 per cent of sexual offences against children have been reported.

DC directed the police not to reveal the identities of sexual harassment victims at any situation.

Childline Convener Sampath, Chief Judicial Magistrate MS Patil, District Child Welfare officer Gracy Gonsalves, Prajna Counselling Centre member Hilda Rayappan and were present.
