Karkala: Karkala Municipality’s regular meet; non-cooperation from authorities, tussle between authorities and opposition

Karkala; Feb 02: In recent days, it was alleged that some of the authorities of the municipal council by behaving like chieftain, not giving value to the talk of the members and even in development matters also, our opinions are not being taken into account and we are being neglected. In case, this incident is repeated, we will no longer remain silent said ruling and opposition members, There was an intense war of words against the authorities.

It was  seriously alleged by the members of CMC in the CMC’s regular meeting held under the presidentship of Rehamat Sheikh, president ,CMC on Feb 01,Saturday that apart from insulting,blaming,malaigning the members of CMC  by the ruling and opposition members , even in development works creating impediments.

Reacting to this, Sundara Poojary said that ‘I have not done anything wrong, which creates enmity or hatredness, I just asked the opinions of respective wards. In case anything went wrong by me, I beg apologies, he said. While speaking Rector Mabel D’Souza said that we ensure that such incidents will not be repeated in the future.

When there was an argument erupted between ruling and opposition members about the pending works of re-tar application  on  city’s roads under town development programme, Asfaque Ahmad, member of ruling party while speaking said that process of re-application of tar has already begun and now unnecessary discussion ,confusion of from where it has to be started is not needed.Prakash Rao said in his speech that high-mast lights in Bandipur bus stand, high-mast lights have been damaged since more than one month and not repaired yet. He urged to take steps to repair the same immediately.

Subhit.N.R raised an objection against the methods of purchase of new furnitures worth Rs 4 lacs.

There was also a discussion held about the illegal flower shops, those have been cleared once, are now again back on the trade in hand-cart. Reacting to this Prakash Rao said that wherever the shops are creating nuisance to the public, it would be suitable to clear those flower shops, he said.

While speaking Shubhadh Rao said that though there are many unauthorized buildings are coming up within the jurisdiction of CMC, CMC is showing soft corner at them. Whosever the illegal building may be, municipality has to take the measure to demolish the same he urged. Adding the voice to this, Subhit Kumar has said that by identifying all the illegal buildings, those should be cleared, he said.

Objecting to this statements, Ashfaque Ahmad, member of the ruling party said that there are many destitute, poor and homeless people are staying with their family, children by building the houses and for these illegal houses electricity connections and door numbers have been given by the CMC.Why it was not being re-viewed. Now all of a sudden, if we start the process of vacating, children and women will face hardship, he said.

Mohammed Sharief while speaking about the problem of wastes disposal, said that in the city problem of solid waste disposal is increasing day by day. If CMC failed to take any steps in this regard before the next regular meeting, we will not allow the meeting to be held, he warned.

Reacting to this, medical officer Sundara Poojary said that for the solid waste disposal, already three vehicles are available and needed one more vehicle. Since it is becoming difficult to carry out the job under the present condition, he suggested giving on contract for outside party, he opined.

CMC vice president Shashikala Rane, Rector Mebel D’souza, standing committee president Winneybold Mendonca were present in the meeting.
